Undergraduate

CLIM 2000 The Atmosphere and Weather
Survey class in weather, covering basic processes of the atmosphere. Meets general education requirement for physical science.

CLIM  3250 Aviation Weather
Study of principles and analyses of weather important for pilots.

CLIM  3820 Climate Change
Physical basis of climate, as well as mechanisms and processes causing fluctuations at various time scales.

CLIM  4300 General Meteorology
Introduction to basic principles of meteorology designed for upper division students from other majors. Emphasis is placed on quantitative approach to physical processes of the atmosphere.

Graduate

CLIM  6250 Remote Sensing of Land Surfaces
Basic principles of radiation and remote sensing. Techniques for ground-based measurements of reflected and emitted radiation, as well as ancillary data to support airborne and satellite remote sensing. Applications in agriculture, hydrology, and ecology.

CLIM  6400 Introduction to Meteorology
Designed for senior and graduate students who desire some basic introduction to meteorology. Bridges the gap between approaches that describe atmospheric processes in broad and descriptive terms, and advanced courses that treat the atmosphere with advanced mathematics.

CLIM  6500 Land Atmosphere Interactions
Examination of the exchanges and interactions between the land surface and atmosphere at various scales of space and time. Study of the flow of mass and energy in the soil-vegetation-atmosphere continuum, feedbacks between the surface and atmosphere, and the connections to local and regional climate.

CLIM  6680 Paleoclimatology
Taught in the Geology Department. Climate through the last 4 billion years, and driving forces behind climate changes. Examines data and methods used in paleoclimate research. Discussion of literature and local paleoclimate records.

CLIM  6800 Environmental Biophysics
Explores the connections between the biosphere and atmosphere at many scales. Documents processes that govern exchanges of mass and energy between organisms and ecosystems and the atmosphere, and the connections to climate. Exposure to recent ideas about connections between the biosphere and climate of the Earth, such as the Gaia Hypothesis. Other subjects include; the climate system, history of philosophy of science and complex systems.
