Tips from the A-Team

Finances
Many of you are about to embark on your summer vacation, which for many means making money—real money. While it may be tempting to go crazy and refresh your wardrobe and social life, remember that next school year you will need to eat, buy books, and pay tuition. The end of your first school year is a great time to assess how well you used your money, and to get a realistic picture of how much you will need for next year. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign provides a nice student budget worksheet at http://www.osfa.uiuc.edu/forms/MonthlyBudgetWrksht.pdf. Use this to assess last year and determine how much you will need to save for next year. You can also check out http://www.extension.usu.edu/finance. Remember that the Family Life Center is available to help you plan a budget. Also, if you need a Depth Social Science course, consider FCHD 3350 Family Finance. This course teaches you a wide variety of financial management skills. The value of sound personal finance practices can never be overestimated, and this is the time to acquire them.

Best of luck in your future endeavors!
Enjoy your summer! Hopefully your first year at Utah State was rewarding, challenging, and fulfilling. Best of luck as you continue your education. Remember to keep in touch with your academic advisor every semester and, most of all, remember that you are part of a rich tradition of Aggie spirit. For 118 years this University has seen students come, leave their mark, and make their way into society. Remember this as you study for finals, register for classes, and go about your daily duties as a student.
